This class is all about scale. Students will learn the basics of doubling and tripling the size of their work by stacking and stretching thrown sections.
Who is Tori
Tori Motyl is an artist and sculptor based in Putney, Vermont. Commissioned by the brand Ralph Lauren, her work is featured in stores nationwide. She has been featured in publications such as Garden and Gun, Smithsonian Folklife, and Taste of the South, and was named Craft and Overall Winner of the Made in NC Awards by Our State Magazine in 2020.
Workshops details
This class is all about scale. Students will learn the basics of doubling and tripling the size of their work by stacking and stretching thrown sections. We will cover:
Stacking thrown sections to gain height
Stretching stacked sections for increased volume
Planning for complex forms
How to use your body positioning to throw more clay
Students will leave the class with multiple projects and the confidence and skills to continue making big, complex pots as part of their own clay practice.
What to bring:
A basic potter's throwing kit or similar items. This includes:
Sponge, wood rib, trim tool, wire tool, needle tool, wood knife.
Any additional throwing tools the potter is accustomed to
4 round throwing bats made of wood or masonite. Bats will be provided. Bring your own if you have some
50 lbs of clay included
Level: Experienced Beginner - must be able to center and throw consistently
Score & Slip will bisque 1 piece per person, to have your piece glaze fired, will be additional charge $50. Limit 1 per person

7+ days before the workshop: Full refund, minus a 5% cancellation fee.
2–6 days before the workshop: 50% refund.
Within 24 hours of the workshop: No refund.
