Class Levels

1. Beginner

  • For those who have never touched clay before or been many years.

  • Focus: fundamental techniques, basic forms, and understanding the wheel.

  • Projects include but not limited to : cylinders, bowls, mugs, and vases.

2. Returning

  • For students who have taken a few classes (at Score & Slip or elsewhere).

  • You know the basics, explore larger amounts of clay than you’re used to

  • Projects include but not limited to: Forming sets, use bats, bottles, mugs, jars and lids

    3. Intermediate

  • For potters who can center comfortably and are ready for more challenging work.

  • Focus on throwing larger and more complex forms.

  • Projects include but not limited to: jars with lids, nesting bowls, tall cylinders, throwing in sections, advanced glazing - wax resist.

    4. Hybrid

  • Beginner - returning friendly.

  • Combines wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques

  • Great for beginners and returning potters

  • Learn pinching, coiling, trimming, handles, and slab work

  • Explore surface decoration, glazing, and finishing

  • Flexible, creative class to develop your personal style

5. Handbuilding class

  • Beginner friendly and open to all levels

  • Studio orientation and overview of basic handbuilding techniques

  • Pinch pots: controlling form and getting a feel for the clay

  • Finishing pinch pots (rims, thinning out) and combining forms

  • Coil building techniques

  • Working with slabs: using the slab roller, stamps, textures, and molds (hump/slump)

  • Soft slab building with templates

  • Combining pinching, coiling, and slab techniques

    Details

  • Schedule: Meets once per week with your assigned teacher.

  • Make-up Week: Week of March 2 (if class is canceled due to teacher absence, weather, or emergency)

  • Includes:

    • 50 lbs of clay

    • Glazes, underglazes, premade slip, tools and studio equipment.

    • Bisque and glaze firing

    • Studio access for practice outside class time during open business hours ( Check with teacher first if there any absences in their class) there are always 2 wheels open for practice even when a class is meeting and all students are present. First come first serve

  • Cost: $440 (payment plan available)

  • Tools:

    • Bring your own throwing tool kit (available for $15 at the studio)

    • Bring an apron recommended not necessary

    • We have communal tools available for use; brushes, calipers, bats, Diamond Core tools

Enrollment

  • Classes require a minimum of 5 participants to run. If a class does not reach the minimum, it will be canceled.
